Alacain

Racain wandered the forest looking for Alamarth. She had been so distant since the birth of their son. She did not even come to his song.

As he turned he saw a pink and black foal running and heard Alamarth's distinct neigh.

"Alacain, NO!"

Racain strode out and the foal screeched to a stop.

Alamarth pushed her way in front of the foal, "Racain."

He peered over her back at the pink an black colt, "Is this our son?"

"we are leaving, Racain. Please let us pass."

"He is my son Alamarth. Colt, come here."

The colt stepped around Alamarth's pink flank. He was pink with black points and black brindling like Racain and his sire Riabhach carried. He had a huge golden horn and gold hooves.

"No."

Racain looked at his mate, "Alamarth..."

"It's OK mama. I am not afraid," came the colt's strong voice. He stepped fully around his mother and stood, spreading his wings.

They were huge, black and pink but there were hardly any feathers. The wings were leathery with just a hint of feathering at the top - the pink feathers stark against the black.

"Grandfather Riabhach says it's because I am mostly Unicorn but I can fly. The Thestrals taught me. Watch."

Alacain charged past his parents and took flight - the leathery wings flapping the pink feathers lifting and falling to help him turn. He landed and stumbled.

Racain laughed and sang loudly for a moment. "Alamarth, you feared I would dislike my son because of his wings?"

"Because he is different."

Racain roared, "Alamarth. You are pink and I am BRINDLE. What, truly, mare, did you expect?"

Alacain is a Breyer Stablemate (1/32 scale) Mustang customized by me with horn and wings to a "pink" bay brindle with gold horn, hooves and blue eyes.

He is done in pastels and acrylic paints and sealed in matte finish.
