Snape vs The Marauders

Severus had spent his whole summer hoping for a chance to stay with the Evans’ but it had not worked. His father had kept him and his mother prisoner in the house and had beaten his mother black and blue if he found out she even stepped out the door unless he told her to go get more money.

His father had only allowed him to come back to Hogwarts just because he hated Severus and wanted him out of the house. The less money that his father had to spend feeding him meant more for his beer.

Severus was so happy to be going back to Hogwarts but he was not happy that Lily had been sitting with the “Marauders” and a Gryffindor girl. She had waved but had not come to join him in his car. Now he sat watching her as they listened to the sorting ceremony and she giggled at something Lupin had said.

Severus felt a jealous rage like nothing before. She was his and he hated that she talked to them. He hated them and his father and all the people that made fun of him. He agonized over why Lily would write him so intimate letters all summer and then ignore him now.

As they made their way into Potions, Severus pushed into the seat next to Lily before anyone could.

“Why are you not speaking to me?” he demanded in a whisper.

“Severus, what do you mean?”

“Sitting with THEM and ignoring me and after all your letters this summer. Were you playing me Lily?”

“Playing you? Severus, no, I was not doing that. My parents are a bit worried now about me being friends with you because Petunia showed them the letter where you were speaking about killing your father. Severus, they like you but they are scared that you would hurt me like your father hurts your mother.”

Severus felt his heart drop, “I would never be like that Lily.”

“I know. James and his parents came around this summer and my parents like him. They want me to date him even though I told them how horrible he is. I told them that I would rather have Remus Lupin than James Potter. That’s why I was with them. Remus and I have been corresponding. He is a great friend and he wont tell if I am with you.”

“There is something not right about Lupin!” Severus whispered harshly.

Lily’s eyes showed a troubled glint then returned to normal. She wasn’t telling him something.
“Please Severus, he fine. You are being silly.”

Severus didn’t think he was but class had started and he had to begin his potion.

“Well Snivelly! Looks like I am going to be dating Lily with permission from her parents.”

Severus felt the hairs on the back of his neck rise as he turned to look at the “Marauders”. Lupin, as always, was hanging back and looking more pale than usual.

“Look, poor Snivelly doesn’t have my baby brother to protect him now. Aww. Snivelly, did little Reggie get tired of sucking your dick?”

Severus uttered a curse and hit Black full force in the chest. It was the last Severus remembered as all colored lights from wands attacked him at once.

He did hear a whispered, “I am sorry Severus. I’ll get the nurse.”

He felt pain everywhere and he knew from Madam Pomfrey gasp that it was bad. He could taste a syrupy potion at his lips and then warmth and no pain.

“Severus, are you OK?”

Severus’s eyes fluttered open and he looked around to find himself in the hospital wing with Lily sitting by his bedside.

“OH SEVERUS!” she hugged him furiously until he whispered “OUCH.”

“Oh Severus. I owled my parents immediately and told them what James did to you. My father is FURIOUS and wants to know your side and OH SEVERUS!”

She hugged him again much more gently this time as Severs struggled to sit up. He looked over to see Lupin in another bed looking very tired and white as a sheet.

“What’s with him? Feel guilty cause he attacked me?”

“Severus, Remus did not injure you, that was James, Sirius and Peter. Remus got Madam Pomfrey and he’s been horribly ill today. Please, relax or she’ll give you more Dreamless Sleep. “

Severus looked at her worried face and felt better. She still did care for him. He looked over at Lupin and the other boy shuddered and seemed to turn even whiter. Severus wasn’t sure what was wrong with the boy but he was going to check on a theory.  

Lily sat with him most of the day telling him about how the other “Marauders” getting into trouble and she stayed until Madam Pomfrey made her leave.

Mamdam Pomfrey pulled the curtains on Severus and he heard her moving over to Lupin and talking in whispers. Severus rose gingerly from his bed to listen. He pulled back the curtain and watched as she helped Lupin to his feet and took him out the door. Severus went to follow when he heard, “Mr. Snape, a word please.”

He turned to look at Headmaster Dumbledore standing there in the entrance of the Hospital wing.

“Come, sit.”

Severus went back to his bed.

“Now, tell me about the attack.”

Severus told the Headmaster his side and the Headmaster sat quietly and listened intently.

“And Miss Evans. She was very upset that you were hurt. I will want to speak to all of you once you and Mr. Lupin have recovered.”

“What’s wrong with Lupin? Where’d she take him?”

“Oh Mr. Lupin will be fine. We just took him to St. Mungo’s for a day. We almost had to take you there Mr. Snape. Now you sleep well and let’s get you recovered.”

The Headmaster walked out of Hospital wing and Severus snuck to the window. No one was out there. He crawled back into bed and wondered what it was that Lupin had. He would need to visit the library first thing when he got out. He also needed to seek revenge on the “Marauders”. He had much work to do and not a lot of time. The odds were against him but he would figure it out.
