Minerva searched everywhere she could for the American coin. She couldn’t believe she misplaced it. She felt truly awful. She would have to tell her friend that she lost it. She just didn’t know where she could have left it.

As she hurried from the girl’s dormitory through the Gryffindor common room she ran straight into Hagrid. The big burly fourth year mumbled an apology but Minerva had no time to talk. She was going to be late for Transfiguration if she didn’t hurry and she had never been late to Professor Dumbledore’s class before.

Minerva rushed through the halls and made it to the room just in time to follow the other students in. She patted her braid to make sure it hadn’t come loose then she took her seat. Professor Dumbledore turned and smiled to the class. Minerva loved his blue eyes behind his half moon spectacles.

His eyes were the color of the cerulean sky and his smile was so infectious. Minerva sighed dreamily and listened intently as he described the next lesson.

Tom Riddle sat flipping the coin in his fingers. It really made him angry that Minerva ignored him. He was a half-blood after all and from a family with direct ties to Salazar Slytherin himself. He was more pure of blood than all the purebloods out there.

Minerva had no right to ignore him or turn away his advances. The McGonagalls were not that well off of a pureblood family and there were no boys. The name would die out with her.

He looked down at the paper he was working on to see that he had written Lord Voldemort on it. It was his new name. When he left Hogwarts and the hideous muggle children’s home he would have a new name and everyone would fear him. He would win Minerva’s love and affection then.

She would grovel at his feet as he cleaned up the nasty “mudbloods” and all their dirtying of magic. He would do this as a wedding gift for Minerva. She would see his great power and she would not ignore him any longer.

“That’s Minerva’s coin! She was frantic about it. I heard that from Olive Hornby,” came a whining, melancholy voice that pulled Tom from his musings. He hurriedly covered his papers from Myrtle. The Ravenclaw was an annoying menace, much like that oaf Hagrid.

Tom turned on the charm and looked at Myrtle, “I found it and was holding it until I heard to whom it belonged. I shall return it to Minerva straight away.”

He picked up his books and started out the door. He nodded to several boys, mostly Slytherins but there were a few Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs and one Gryffindor that were in his little band of followers.

Tom loved the attention, but he would have Minerva’s attention now. He had her coin and he held the power now.

“Did you really find it? Because she was sure she lost it in her room and that would mean you were in her room.”

“Myrtle, not that it is any of your business but I found the coin in the library on the floor. So why don’t you go bother someone else. Why not go listen to Olive Hornby gossip about everyone?”

He turned toward the Great Hall and lost Myrtle in the crowd of students heading in for lunch. He caught sight of Minerva talking to a house elf. Tom found that gross and disgusting. As he approached he noticed the house elf was hugely pregnant and seemed to have dropped several small items, which Minerva was helping her pick up.

“My lady you no needs to help. I’s just heavy with my Dobby. My magic is nots good right now.”

“Dobby, is that what you are going to name the little one?”

“Yes lady,” the elf said then noticed that Tom had approached. The elf looked rather jumpy and dropped her dustbin and broom.

“Sorry’s my lady, I must goes now.”

Minerva reached to help again and the elf practically laid on everything and blinked out of sight.

“I wonder…”

“Hello Minerva, helping the riff raff I see,” Tom smiled a winning smile at her and was greeted with a frown.

“That wasn’t very nice Tom.”

Tom schooled his features to look hurt and chastised. It worked as Minerva, feeling she must have made him feel bad, nodded and gave a half smile before turning from him.

“Minerva,” he said softly. He really did love the way her named sounded.

She turned, “Yes Tom?”

He held out the coin, “I found this in the library. It looked like the one you were using yesterday.”

She glowed as she reached for the coin. Tom pulled it away from her. Her face turned dark.

“I was thinking that since I found such a valuable keepsake that there might be a reward.”

She looked stricken and her mouth began to move like a fish out of water as he saw her anger grow.

“Oh, I didn’t mean money Minerva,” he said ushering them towards a large suit of Armour.

“What do you want Tom?”

“Minerva, I would have thought that obvious,” he wanted to laugh at her shocked and almost scared look. Did she really find him so loathsome?

“What Tom?” she was visibly shaking now.

Tom smirked at her. He was a year younger but he was taller than her and she had to look up at him. Her eyes were so beautiful. He wanted nothing more than to own her heart and soul, “Just a small kiss Minerva. I think that finding such a precious keepsake such as this is worth a kiss, don’t you agree.”

She blinked several times and involuntarily licked her lips. She looked around to make sure no one would see. She was probably looking for Professor Dumbledore to come save her from the evil Slytherin.

Tom wanted to laugh but instead he kissed her hard. She tried to jerk away but Tom held her until he had his fill of her soft lips and the cherry gloss that she was wearing. Without a word he handed her the coin and walked away.

Minerva dabbed her eyes with a tissue and straightened her hair before entering into the Great Hall. She didn’t want anyone to see her mussed up from Tom’s advances. Olive Hornby would blather to the ends of the earth if she thought something was up with Minerva.

Minerva walked to her seat and took out her book, propping it up on the table so that she couldn’t see Tom laughing and probably telling all his chums that he had kissed her. She was so angry he had taken her first kiss. She had been saving her first kiss for someone special and Tom had taken it.

She knew that the person she wanted would never be her first kiss but she at least thought it would be Al Moody or maybe even Barty Crouch, but not Tom Riddle. She felt almost physically ill.

She reapplied her lip-gloss and then began eating and reading her homework for Potions on the 81 uses for a Bezoar in extreme potions.

As she finished her meal she saw Myrtle approaching her, “Are you really dating Tom Riddle?”

Moody looked up from his lunch, “Nerva is that true?” he asked looking pallid.

“No Alastor, it’s not. Tom gave me my coin from my American quill-friend. He found it. I am sure that you should not be making up lies Myrtle.”

The girl whirled and left, mumbling in her whiny voice and Minerva found Alastor looking over the top of her book at her.

“Nerva, you really shouldn’t go with him. There’s something not right about him.”

“Al, I am not going with him.”

Moody smiled at her showing off his metallic silver tooth he had put in to replace one that had been knocked out by one of Tom’s minions, “Good cause I was hoping…well that you would go to Hogsmeade with me this weekend.”

Minerva tried not to laugh at Alastor’s discomfort but she felt really bad now. She would not count the kiss with Tom, because he took it, he didn’t let her say no. Alastor would be her first kiss. She smiled at him, “I would be delighted Alastor.”

“I know the truth Olive, she’s going with Allie Moody not Tom Riddle,” came the whining voice.

Tom was furious. He wanted nothing more than to jam the letter opener that Myrtle was playing with straight into her heart.

He hurried towards the third floor girl’s lavatory and the safety of the Chamber of Secrets and his beloved Basilisk there. He said the words that opened the door chamber and slide down, taking comfort in the giant beast. He should turn it loose on Alastor Moody and that traitorous Minerva. No, he would make Minerva pay another way and she would want him. He would have her at his side when he ruled the world and killed off all the mudbloods.

He heard crying echoing down the tunnel as he stroked the giant snake. He wanted to laugh but instead he opened the door to the chamber and let the beast slither up, telling it to kill.

“You are not supposed to be in here!” came the voice and then blessed silence. Tom stepped around the snake, gave Myrtle’s limp form a kick and then sent the beast back down the tunnel and through the pipes to the Slytherin Prefects lavatory. He could talk to it through the pipes there.

He made sure no one was around as he slipped out and down to the Slytherin Common Room.

Moments later he heard the announcement from Headmaster Dippet telling all students to return to their dormitories. He knew that Myrtle had been found.
